She owns an up-scale fabric store and custom dressmaking business in Baton Rouge, Louisiana and her designs have been worn everywhere from the opening of the Met to Acapulco. Cynthia has developed effective, practical, and simple fitting and construction techniques that she teaches throughout the United States. You will be mailed a workbook with all the needed instructions for measuring your body, altering your pattern, and constructing a mock-up before coming to class. Cynthia will personally fit your mock-up and demonstrate how to transfer the adjustments to your pattern. You will leave with a pattern ready to cut and sew.
Supply List -- Altered pattern, paper scissors, fabric scissors, tissue for adjusting pattern, straight pins, transparent tape, 1/2 yard of mock-up fabric, Ink pen, ruler, tape measure, shoes for adjusting pants length.

Fitting Accomplished: Part 1

There are two measurements that affect 80% of the fit of a garment for the upper body: shoulders, armholes, collars, bust apex, and more. Cynthia will demonstrate the measuring techniques, their influence on fit, and how to apply them to the pattern.

One of the most challenging areas of fitting is the transition from one area to another: for example, from narrow shoulders to a full bust. First, Cynthia will detail a measuring process that makes the application to the pattern easier. She will discuss the selection of a pattern style that allows for a flattering, more linear look and how to make that pleasing flow from one point to another.

Pants fitting is often the most frustrating project for sewers. Cynthia will demonstrate techniques of pants fitting that you may not have considered in your past struggles: waist slope, waist to knee adjustment, and hip shape. All of the elements that assure a perfect fit will be analyzed, questions answered, and fit accomplished.

The order of construction and the understanding of the direction of the grain are two key elements to the finished drape of pants. Both of these issues plus sewing the concavity of the waistline and more will presented.
