Three-hour hands-on workshop

Expand your creativity as you learn to crochet a fashionable scarf. You will learn how to read a basic crochet pattern, how to hold the hook and yarn, and how to make basic stitches (chain, single crochet, double crochet). Cost for Supply Kit includes yarn, hook and pattern.

Crocodile Crochet (Intermediate)
Three-hour hands-on workshop

Learn to make the fun Crocodile Stitch as you create a trendy project. Choose from a scarf, purse, hat or neck warmer using this "scaly," textured stitch.

Design A Crocheted Vest Using a Sewing Pattern

Three-hour hands-on workshop
Learn to transform a commercial sewing pattern into crochet instructions for a vest. Using a ruler, calculator and basic math skills, you will complete a design template to convert the sewing pattern dimensions to complete crochet instructions. Note: The garment is not crocheted in class; only a gauge swatch will be made.
Supply list: yarn, hook, pencil, calculator, ruler and commercial sewing pattern for vest (with no darts and only back and/or side seams).

Here's your chance to bring a shirt to class and get it ready for embellishment. You will learn the proper method for finding the center, stabilizing the center front, learn how to add clear elastic to the neckline for strength, cut up the shirt and fit it, stabilize the hemline…anything and everything can be done without a sewing machine…there will be at least one in class for basic basting if needed. The purpose of this class is to give you the courage to do it yourself at home…instead of thinking about it or doing it and not being happy with the results. This will jumpstart your success and you'll be ready to go home and start creating! Join Cindy for this great class! All your stabilizers and your choice of pattern come with the class.

Blooming ideas

It is all in the stitch…appliqué that is 3-D style. With the use of a few creative ideas, a hand full of sewing machine stitches and the proper techniques you will be on your way to creating appliqués that are anything but boring. Learn how to add different embellishment and textures what will take your appliqué to another dimension. Let us inspire you!
Fan-tastic Fan Sampler
Instructor: Marilyn Doheny, Doheny Publications
Students will be introduced to using the creative tool called the 9 Degree Circle Wedge Ruler and shown how to make over 20 different fans – just by sewing strips together and moving the tool into different positions to create dynamic effects. Marilyn will then show infinite ways to use the fans to make both traditional and contemporary quilts featuring corner fans, half circles, full circles, infinity figure eight medallions and–believe it or not–amazing garden elements including flowers, butterflies, dragon flies, and even snails!
All of the actual sewing is "silly simple" and most of the fan designs have no seams to match. Arrive with a camera–you will be inspired, motivated, and captivated with what is presented.
Pick A Shape – Any Shape…What Shape Are You?

This presentation is amazing and enlightening. Marilyn will introduce you to a universal language of shapes. Their individual meanings are 'universally' known within all cultures for all of humankind's history. This is an audience participation lecture filled with quilting visuals. It is also very entertaining and useful for quilters in their future work. Everyone will gain insight and have fun applying the knowledge to all of their future quilting endeavors. It is also very revealing to look back over previously made quilts with new awareness and see what is revealed about what we have been attracted to making.
Egyptian Wheel of Wonder
Instructor: Marilyn Doheny, Doheny Publications
Students will learn to make circles and fans that have the look of being three dimensional and woven. The technique taught is easy and diverse, creating images from miniature up to king-sized! They are mesmerizing and captivating to view and addictive to make. Images can become table toppers, tree skirts, quilts of any size, and even dramatic elements of quilted garments.
Spiral Waltz–Two Fans Dancing!
Instructor: Marilyn Doheny, Doheny Publications
This workshop is dynamic and magical! Marilyn will show you how to take a few simple strips of cloth and turn them into spiral serpentine using any of her 9 Degree Circle Wedge Rulers and a very clever cutting technique. There are no seams to match in this design and it is fast, fun, and almost effortless to make. The possibilities are endless so bring a camera–you will be inspired!
Dyeing to Quilt

Dyeing cloth is an age old passion. Even if you've tried it before or you are just the slightest bit interested in how it's done, you'll love this "hands on" excursion into the world of dye. One project is a silk scarf…beautiful in its own right but we will enhance it with color. Cindy will lead you through the processes helping you dye three types of fiber…silk, cotton and wool. Each one will be more beautiful than the last. We'll be using procion dyes for an amazing vibrancy you just can't get with other types of dye. This is a great way to experience the excitement and fulfillment dyeing fabric brings. Cindy gives you the stepping stones to dyeing your own fabric for garments and quilts. Truly Exciting!

Stuffed Embroidery

Cindy has developed a different kind of applique embroidery that gives an amazing dimensional quality unlike any you've seen. You will use yarns, wool felts, fiber, roving…all the cool stuff you've bought but haven't gotten around to using. Since developing this technique, she has created new collections of simple and quick designs so you can be Über-creative in just a moment of time. These sew so quick you won't believe it. Snip It, Stitch It, Wear It!

You say you've tried modifying a sweatshirt but there are things you would like to improve on? Watch as Cindy takes a plain sweatshirt and readies it for creating a jacket…you'll see her trim off the ribbings, find the proper center and stabilize for the embellishments, she sews the elastic around the neckline, hems with a twin needle, takes the bulk out of the shoulder using two methods and more! All this and a mini trunk show of her newest sweatshirt modifications.

Fat Quarter Quick Surprise

2 hour Sit and Sew using sewing machines Are you looking for a project that uses fat quarters or leftover fabric?
Would you like to use those samplers from longarm or quilting classes? Great for beginners or the seasoned stitcher, this bag makes a great quick project and/or gift. The kits are cut and serged. The easy to make bag uses a new zipper application. Learn quick miters and accurate finishing touches. Walk out of class with a finished project and the knowledge to make more!

There are new and different applications. Use zippers as trim, artwork, jewelry, and places that you never would have used a zipper, included are at least five easy ways to insert a zipper. Come join me and learn the new tricks with zippers. It's an adventure with the sewing machine!
Creating the Perfect BAG!

Everything that can be made into a garment, pillow, wallhanging, or quilt can also be made into a handbag. Handbags are the rage and you need more than one. Discover how easy it is to make bags with character to fit your special needs. Whether making a cute evening bag, holder for CDs, or large carryall for everyday, there are tricks of the trade. Padded shoulder straps, chain application, corded piping, sew-in magnetic snaps, bag feet, and under construction essentials are some of the basics. There are tips for proper positioning of creative design for all styles of bags. Use handbags as a palette to play with your sewing machine while creating bags uniquely your own. Building Kaleidoscopes

As a child, it was fun to play with kaleidoscopes and watch the different designs evolve. A twist of the wrist and the design was gone forever! Today, it is easy to create kaleidoscopes with your own photography. By using different template shapes, you'll marvel at the works of art that can be created to print on fabric on fabric or paper. Use the kaleidoscope as a base for further thread embellishment, build a project with the kaleidoscope as a focal point or piece it into a block for a quilted project. This could be another creative addiction.
Vintage Jewelry Keeper

Instructor: Kathy McMakin, Martha Pullen Company & Sew Beautiful Magazine This multi-pocketed little jewelry keeper is created from classic cotton, embroidered insertion, French lace beading and one of the pockets has a zipper….. absolutely you can put in a zipper with your serger!!! A ruffle of Victorian edging completes the front and a solid lining is fashioned of Classic Cotton chosen to match the ribbon color. A petite spaghetti bias bow adds just the right amount of "cute" to your finished project. This keeper could also be used for the ultimate gift card holder or simply add a strap to convert to a small purse. Kit fee $10.

Come listen to the "Queen of Pants" and find out everything you wanted to ever know about pants and how to get them to fit like you want. Listen To The Tissue

The tissue is trying to tell you that the armholes are too large and you are not listening. Also the neckline is too low, but you are not listening. Come learn how to look at the tissue and recognize whether it is right or wrong before wasting your time cutting the cloth. Fix first, then cut. This is a good one.

Quilts of A Different Color

Class Limit 30
Learn how easy it is to apply color using regular colored pencils to a small, quilted piece. Don't be afraid of using bold, bright colors to create great contrast and drama to your piece. Also learn how to do very impressive looking shading in order to create a 3D effect. Your design might look bright, or very soft if you prefer. After you learn how easy it is, you will ask yourself why didn't you try it a long time ago!

I have heard it over and over, but it is just not true. You can fit yourself, by yourself and Peggy will show you how. Bring any garment you would like to bring and Peggy will bring the rest and will show you how to fit yourself, by yourself!
